1. Project Background
The cooperating theater is a medium-sized professional theater in Zimbabwe, with a seating capacity of 300-500 people, mainly undertaking performances such as dramas, musicals, and local cultural shows. Before the project, the theater's original audio system had obvious defects: the sound coverage was uneven, there were hearing dead corners in the back row and corner areas of the audience, the human voice was blurred, and the low-frequency performance was insufficient, which seriously affected the audience's viewing experience. In addition, the original equipment often had failures during long-term high-power operation, which disrupted the normal performance arrangement.
In order to improve the audio quality and ensure the smooth progress of various performances, the client decided to customize a set of professional audio equipment. After comparing multiple audio suppliers, the client finally chose us. The core reasons are our professional audio debugging technology, stable product quality, and rich experience in theater audio customization projects. The client highly recognized our ability to tailor solutions according to the actual situation of the venue and our perfect after-sales service guarantee, and thus determined the cooperation intention.
2. Customer Needs
The core goal of the project is to solve the existing audio problems of the theater and create a high-quality audio environment for the audience and performers. The specific needs and challenges are as follows:
- Sound Clarity: Ensure that the sound in every corner of the theater is clear and transparent, with no distortion or noise, especially to highlight the clarity of human voice, so that the audience can clearly hear every line of the performance and every detail of the music.
- Stable Operation: The audio system can run stably at high power for a long time (at least 6 hours continuously) without any failure, to adapt to the long duration of theater performances and avoid performance interruptions caused by equipment failures.
- Scenario Adaptability: The audio system can adapt to different performance types (drama, musical, etc.), with flexible adjustment, and can meet the different audio needs of various performances, such as the fullness of low frequency in musicals and the clarity of human voice in dramas.
- Easy Maintenance: The equipment is easy to install and maintain, and the client's staff can quickly master the basic operation and daily maintenance methods, reducing subsequent use and maintenance costs.
3. Our Solution
Combined with the actual situation of the theater (site size, structure, acoustic environment) and the client's core needs, our team customized a targeted audio solution, focusing on solving the problems of uneven sound coverage and unstable operation. The specific plan is as follows:
We adopted 4 K208 line array speakers as the main sound reinforcement equipment, 2 K18S subwoofers to supplement the low-frequency effect, and 4 PS12 monitor speakers to meet the audio monitoring needs of performers on the stage.
Before the installation, our professional technical team went to the theater for on-site survey and acoustic simulation, measured the size of the venue, analyzed the acoustic characteristics (such as sound reflection and reverberation time), and formulated a scientific equipment layout plan: the 4 K208 line array speakers were installed above the stage to form a uniform sound coverage area, ensuring that the sound can reach every corner of the audience; the 2 K18S subwoofers were installed on both sides of the stage to enhance the low-frequency impact and enrich the audio layering; the 4 PS12 monitor speakers were placed on the front edge of the stage to ensure that the performers can clearly hear their own voices and the background music, facilitating real-time adjustment of performance status.
In the debugging stage, our technical team used professional audio debugging equipment to optimize the sound frequency response curve, adjust the volume balance of each position, and conduct a 6-hour continuous high-power operation test to ensure that the system can run stably without failure, and the sound clarity and coverage meet the client's requirements.
4. Main Product Advantages
The core equipment used in this project are K208 line array speakers, K18S subwoofers, and PS12 monitor speakers. These products have outstanding performance advantages, which provide a strong guarantee for the smooth implementation of the project. The specific advantages are as follows:
K208 Line Array Speaker
The K208 line array speaker is a two-way two-frequency system, composed of two 44mm high-frequency compression units and two 8-inch low-frequency units, which forms a combination with large dynamic margin and greatly reduces the weight of the cabinet, providing an extremely high sound pressure/volume ratio. It adopts advanced acoustic design, with a flat wave converter that converts the high-frequency audio waveform from spherical wave to equiphase plane wave, which greatly reduces the high-frequency interference effect and improves the sound clarity at long distances. The cabinet is trapezoidal, and the gap between cabinets is minimized, reducing the invalid sound generation area of the entire array and minimizing the vertical side lobes of the array. Equipped with a precision aluminum hoisting system, the connection angle between cabinets can be adjusted freely between 0° and 6°, which can be flexibly adapted to the layout needs of different theater venues. The surface of the cabinet is painted with wear-resistant black gold sand paint, which is durable and can adapt to the long-term use of the theater environment. The speaker has high sensitivity and wide frequency response, which can accurately transmit every audio detail, ensuring that the sound is clear and transparent in the large space of the theater, and the coverage is uniform without dead corners.
K18S Subwoofer
The K18S subwoofer adopts a classic ported speaker system design, equipped with a high-power 18-inch neodymium magnet low-frequency speaker, with high sensitivity, light weight, strong strength and abundant energy. It has no air flow noise during large dynamic operation, and the high-performance long-stroke unit with 75mm voice coil can output a wide range of dynamics, so that the low-frequency surging energy can be clearly felt even at a distance from the speaker. The cabinet is compactly designed, small in size and light in weight, and the surface is painted with environmentally friendly water-based sand texture paint, which can withstand various frictions and effectively protect the cabinet. The top of the cabinet is designed with a φ35mm standard audio tray, which can be combined with full-frequency speakers through adjustable height audio brackets, facilitating system expansion applications. In this theater project, the K18S subwoofer effectively makes up for the lack of low frequency of the main speaker, enriches the audio layering, and brings a more shocking audio experience to the audience during musical and large-scale performance.
PS12 Monitor Speaker
The PS12 is a trapezoidal built-in frequency division two-way speaker, designed for various mobile language and music sound reinforcement applications, and can also be used in various fixed installation occasions. It is composed of a direct-radiating 12-inch mid-low frequency unit and a 44mm polyester film compression unit, with a 70°×70° constant directivity horn, which can accurately transmit sound to the designated area (stage performance area) without interfering with the audience's listening experience. The low-frequency unit has a 75mm voice coil diameter, aluminum basin frame, and neodymium magnet low-frequency unit with active impedance compensation, which ensures the fullness and stability of the low frequency. The two sides of the trapezoidal cabinet have angles of 17° and 45°, which allows installation close to the ceiling in a space with limited height. It is equipped with 6 M10 hoisting points and 6 professional aluminum slide rail buckles, which are convenient for hoisting and angle adjustment in fixed installation and mobile applications. There is a 35mm bracket base at the bottom of the cabinet, which is easy to place and fix. The cabinet is made of 15mm splint, with a wear-resistant black glossy waterproof paint surface, which is durable and easy to clean. The PS12 monitor speaker has high sound clarity and strong anti-interference ability, which can ensure that the performers on the stage can clearly hear the monitoring sound, and effectively avoid the situation of out-of-tune and wrong performance.
5. Implementation Process
In order to ensure the smooth implementation of the project and the quality of the final effect, our team strictly followed the standardized implementation process, and each link was strictly controlled. The specific process is as follows:
(1) On-site Survey and Planning
Our technical team went to the theater in Zimbabwe to conduct a comprehensive on-site survey, which mainly included measuring the length, width and height of the theater, understanding the structure of the venue (such as stage position, audience seating distribution, ceiling height), and detecting the acoustic environment of the venue (such as reverberation time, sound reflection, noise interference). Based on the survey results and the client's needs, we used professional acoustic simulation software to model the venue, simulated the sound coverage effect of different equipment layouts, and finally determined the installation position, angle and quantity of K208 line array speakers, K18S subwoofers and PS12 monitor speakers. At the same time, we formulated a detailed construction plan, including construction time, personnel arrangement, and safety precautions, to ensure that the subsequent installation work can be carried out in an orderly manner.
(2) Installation and Programming Debugging
According to the determined construction plan, our installation team carried out the equipment installation work. First, the hoisting brackets were installed at the designated positions, and then the K208 line array speakers were hoisted and fixed, and the K18S subwoofers and PS12 monitor speakers were placed and fixed. After the equipment installation was completed, the wiring work was carried out, and high-quality audio cables were used to connect the equipment to ensure stable signal transmission and avoid signal interference. Then, the professional programming debugging work was carried out: the audio processor was programmed to set the frequency response curve, volume balance, delay and other parameters of the system; the sound of each speaker was debugged to ensure that the sound coverage was uniform and the sound clarity met the requirements; the monitoring system was debugged to ensure that the performers could clearly hear the monitoring sound.
(3) Testing and Optimization
After the installation and debugging, we carried out a comprehensive system test. The test content included: sound coverage test (testing the sound volume and clarity of different positions in the audience), sound quality test (testing the distortion degree, frequency response range, etc.), and stable operation test (carrying out a 6-hour continuous high-power operation test to check whether the equipment has failures such as overheating and sound interruption). For the problems found in the test (such as local sound weakness, slight distortion), our technical team made targeted adjustments and optimizations, such as adjusting the angle of the line array speakers, optimizing the frequency response parameters, and replacing the audio cables with poor contact. After multiple rounds of testing and optimization, the audio system finally met all the client's requirements.
6. Project Achievements
After the completion of the project, the audio system of the theater has been comprehensively upgraded, and the project has achieved remarkable results, which has been highly recognized by the client:
