1. Project Background
The client for this project is a well-known performance planning organization in Zimbabwe, focusing on the organization and execution of large-scale concerts, cultural galas and other events. In May 2024, the client planned to hold an outdoor concert with a scale of 4,000 people at a large outdoor square in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe. The venue covers a total area of about 2,000 square meters, with an overall rectangular open layout and no shelter structure. It has outdoor acoustic pain points such as easy sound diffusion and attenuation, interference from environmental noise, and large volume differences in different areas.
As a key annual cultural event in the local area, this concert attracted many well-known local singers and music lovers. The client's core demand was to solve the problems of the outdoor venue, such as fast sound diffusion, uneven coverage, blurred sound, vulnerability to environmental interference, and frequent equipment failures. It was necessary to ensure that all 4,000 audiences could clearly hear the stage sound no matter where they were in the venue. At the same time, the sound system should be able to operate stably for a long time, resist minor outdoor environmental impacts, and avoid affecting the performance process due to equipment failures.
After comparing domestic and foreign audio brands and solutions, the client finally chose to cooperate with our company. The core reasons are that our company has a professional audio debugging team and rich experience in audio services for large-scale concerts. In addition, the T24N line array loudspeakers far exceeded the client's expectations in terms of sound restoration, debugging convenience and equipment stability, and could accurately meet the core needs of this concert.
2. Client Requirements
The core goal of this project is to provide a high-quality and high-stability audio solution for an indoor concert with a scale of 4,000 people. The specific requirements and challenges are as follows:
- Sound Quality and Coverage Requirements: Ensure uniform sound coverage in the entire 2,000-square-meter open outdoor venue, with no dead ends or noise, and resist environmental noise interference. The error in sound clarity and volume consistency between the front and rear rows and left and right corners of the audience area shall not exceed 2dB. It should not only clearly restore the singer's human voice, but also perfectly present the delicate timbre of musical instruments, create an immersive auditory experience, and solve the pain point of easy outdoor sound diffusion.
- Stability Requirements: The concert lasts for 12 hours in total, including rehearsal, official performance and closing links. The sound system needs to support continuous 12-hour high-power operation, adapt to the outdoor environment, resist the impact of minor wind and dust, and have no freezes, sound interruptions, equipment overheating or failures, so as to ensure the smooth progress of the performance process and avoid performance interruption caused by audio problems.
- Debugging and Adaptation Requirements: The sound system should have flexible debugging functions, which can quickly adjust sound quality parameters according to the acoustic characteristics of the venue and the types of performance programs (pop, rock, folk, etc.) to adapt to the playback needs of different styles of music. At the same time, the debugging process should be efficient and convenient, without affecting the progress of performance preparation.
3. Our Solution
In response to the client's core needs and venue pain points, our company set up a professional project team. After on-site investigation, plan demonstration and simulation test, we finally decided to use 12 T24N line array loudspeakers as the core sound reinforcement equipment for the concert stage, combined with supporting power amplifiers, audio processors and other auxiliary equipment to form a complete audio solution. The specific implementation ideas are as follows:
- Venue Investigation and Planning: The project team went to the outdoor concert venue in advance, used professional acoustic testing instruments to measure the spatial dimensions, topographical characteristics and environmental noise parameters of the venue. Combined with the distribution of 4,000 audiences, the installation position, hanging height and angle of the T24N line array were planned. The layout of "main sound reinforcement + supplementary sound + monitor sound" was adopted, combined with windproof brackets to reduce the impact of wind on the loudspeakers, ensure uniform sound coverage of the entire outdoor venue, and solve the problems of sound diffusion, uneven coverage and sound attenuation in corners.
- Equipment Configuration and Debugging: 12 T24N line array loudspeakers were selected and hung on both sides of the stage respectively, combined with professional power amplifiers to provide stable power support for the line array; 2 audio processors were equipped to realize precise adjustment of sound quality parameters, optimize sound restoration and suppress noise interference.
- Stability Guarantee: In the scheme design stage, in response to the 12-hour high-power operation and outdoor environment needs, special tests were carried out on the heat dissipation system, circuit structure and protection performance of the T24N line array. Waterproof and dustproof accessories were selected, backup equipment and emergency debugging team were equipped, and windproof and fixed measures for equipment were taken. It was ensured that if sudden environmental changes or equipment problems occurred during the performance, the team could respond quickly and solve them in time, so as to ensure the continuous trouble-free operation of the system.

5. Implementation Process
To ensure the smooth progress of the project and the expected audio effect of the concert, our company strictly promoted the project implementation in accordance with the following processes, which were professional and efficient, taking into account both quality and progress:
(1) Provide Planning Scheme Combined with the Actual Venue
After the project was launched, our company sent a project team composed of 3 professional acoustic engineers and 2 debugging technicians to carry out on-site investigation at the outdoor concert venue in Zimbabwe. The length, width, topographical slope and environmental noise coefficient of the venue were measured with professional instruments, and the acoustic pain points of the venue (such as fast sound diffusion, environmental noise interference, sound attenuation in corners, etc.) were analyzed. Combined with the distribution of 4,000 audiences, a detailed venue layout map and line array installation diagram were drawn.
The scheme clearly defined the installation position, hanging height, angle and spacing of 12 T24N line arrays, determined the layout of "main sound reinforcement line array + auxiliary supplementary sound + monitor sound", matched with special windproof and fixed brackets, did a good job in equipment waterproof and dustproof protection, and planned the placement of auxiliary equipment such as power amplifiers and audio processors to avoid outdoor interference sources, ensure stable signal transmission between equipment and avoid interference. After the client confirmed the scheme, the implementation was officially launched.
(2) Installation and Programming Debugging
After the equipment was transported to the venue, the project team quickly carried out equipment installation in accordance with the planning scheme. First, a stable hanging bracket was built to complete the fixed installation of the line array, and windproof and dustproof protection measures were taken to avoid the impact of outdoor wind and dust on the equipment, ensure the firmness of the hanging structure, and avoid the risk of equipment falling during the performance; then, auxiliary equipment such as power amplifiers and audio processors were connected, the signal connection between equipment was debugged to ensure smooth signal transmission, and the protection of equipment lines was done to prevent outdoor environment from damaging the lines.
After the installation was completed, the programming and debugging stage was entered. The technical personnel accurately adjusted the sound quality parameters of the T24N line array through professional debugging software, including volume, EQ, delay, etc., to optimize the uniformity and restoration of sound coverage; at the same time, simulated the concert performance scenario, played different styles of music, tested the adaptability of the sound system, and adjusted the parameters in a timely manner for the problems found to ensure the best sound effect. During the debugging process, the client participated in the whole process and fed back the needs in a timely manner. The project team optimized and adjusted according to the client's opinions until the client was satisfied.
(3) Testing and Optimization
After the debugging was completed, a comprehensive system test was carried out. First, a sound quality coverage test was conducted, and the staff were arranged to listen in different areas of the venue (front row, rear row, left and right corners) to detect the sound clarity and volume consistency, resist environmental noise interference, and ensure no dead ends or noise; then, a stability test was conducted to simulate the outdoor environment (such as minor wind), run at high power continuously, detect the equipment operation status, and ensure no overheating, no sound interruption and other problems; finally, combined with possible emergencies in outdoor performances, an emergency test was conducted to ensure that the emergency team could respond quickly and ensure the smooth progress of the performance. The minor problems found during the test were optimized and adjusted by the project team in a timely manner until the best effect was achieved.
6. Project Achievements
The sound quality coverage was uniform, and the system operated continuously for 12 hours at high power without failures.
